A Science Class

Gado opened the door to his classroom and breathed in the smell of chemicals. He then proceeded to prepare his classroom for today's lesson. First he wrote the days homework on the blackboard. The problems from the end of chapter one. He then placed a beaker of water in the back of the classroom. He then sat at his desk and reviewed his class list while he waited for his students to fill in the empty seats.

"Hurry up Rex!" Rina shouted as she turned back to look at her twin. Rexel had just rolled out of bed and was lagging behind her, carrying her biology book and scratching the back of her head.

"Ugh... Too... early..." She heard her twin mumble groggily while fumbling down the hall and through the door.

Rina couldn't help but roll her eyes at her sister's utter laziness and took a seat close to the front of the class and closest to the window. Rexel plopped down next to her and dramatically banged her head onto the table.

Again, Rina rolled her eyes.

Kira walks into class in uniform but it is cut in the arm and their is a bandage. He walks towards the front of the class and sits next to the twins. In one hand is his backpack. In the other is a roll of badanges and a bottle of Advil. He puts his stuff down and stands back up. He then walks up to the teacher's desk laying down a note saying why he is like he is. As usual he did not start the fight but only defended himself.

Gado didn't even look at the note but smiled as the boy placed it on his desk. "You don't need doctor notes here son. We know everything that goes on here." Gado giggled at him a little. "You must be new here. How are you enjoying the school so far?"

"some people here are quite hostile, but some are quite friendly" Kira says as he glances at Rina and Rexel. Kira walks back over to the sisters and says "hows it goin?".

As Kira walked by the twins, Rina smiled honestly and said "Good Morning," but all he could hear from Rexel was a grunt followed by some mumbling and something along the lines of "morning" and "brain-broken".

Rina just stared at her sister with a dead-panned expression and opened her text book, obviously used to her double's behavior.

Gado waited a little longer for more students to arrive before standing up at his desk and clearing his throat, signifying That he was ready to start the class now. "Good morning class. My name is Mr. Linium and I am your science teacher. Before we do anything else," he reached into a drawer and held up a small rock. "Can anyone tell me what this mineral is?"

Kira smiles at Rina and asks "how are you today?". Kira was in a good mood for having his hand slashed open, he did not care since he beat the aggressors, but he needs a new sparring partner. Kira looks up at the rock and try to think where he had seen it before; but realises he doesn't care seeing as he already knows what a mineral is.

As if to embellish upon Kira's comment a loud snore came from Rexel's form and as the entire class turned toward the noise, Rina felt the scrutiny of being the center of attention. She quickly kicked her sister to wake her.

Unfortunately, she missed her sister's leg and had smacked the chair's legs none to harshly, forcing Rexel to fall to the ground in a loud thump.

"WHAT THE BLUE FUCK, RINA?!" Rex suddenly yells as she picks herself up off the ground, glaring daggers at her twin while the rest of the class erupted into a fit of hysterics.

Gado spoke to the class, "Alright now, settle down. Yes, watching a girl fall out of her chair is more amazing than looking at my rock here. I'll admit that but, what happens when this rock meets water is far more interesting, I assure you. Now, if you will, please crawl under your desks and I will demonstrate what I mean by this." He waited for everyone to comply. "Observe." He threw the rock into the beaker in the back of the class and quickly ducked down behind his own desk. When it hit the water the glass shattered into little pieces leaving nothing but small droplets of water where the beaker once sat.

"Now, can anyone tell me what that was?" Gado stood back up.

Kira does not crawl under his desk but somehow remains uninjured. His logic was that he was injured already, glass wouldn't do much more. He sighs and raises his hand stating that "at first glance one would say sodium die to it's notoriety for it's volatile nature, however it is probably a less stable metal from the Alkali Metal family. More then that can not be said unless you provide more information". (sodium would not destroy a bracket unless you put an insane amount in. The energy would take the path of least resistance, which is up and water is easier to move then glass)

Rina is utterly shocked at Kira's cool display of intelligence and she suddenly becomes very interested in the new student.

Rexel just continued to grumble and whine about the abuse she had received only seconds ago before she began to gripe about explosions so early in the morning.

"A good observation." Gado turned his attention to Rexel. "And I hope you remain awake for my classes from now on." He then spoke to the class in general, "That was a small piece of Potassium. When it meets the water it's ripped apart on an atomic level. Now, in this class we will learn all about the elements and how to control and manipulate them." He turned around and pulled on a small string that had been hanging from the chalkboard. A small series of tiny explosions and a smoke screen filled the room. "Come prepared for next class. We're learning how to make these." Gado shouted through the smoke.

Kira ignores the compliment and just nods and says "Thank you sir" and looks at the startled girls next to him. Kira smiled at the girl looking at him and looks at the grumbling Rexel. Kira was aware if the volitile nature of Alkili metal due to the fact when he was living in the horse stall he had done a lot of studying and work outs to kill time on days he was not permitted to leave. Kira looks back at Rina and asks "are you ok?". Kira was pretty sure she was at least slightly shaken.

"Back home they don't allow student's use of volatile chemicals." She answered him, gently brushing back her long hair to reveal some of her neck.

"I'm just not used to explosions," She giggled. Rexel suddenly pushed herself off the seat and yawned loudly.

"Ugh, Sucks..." She mumbled before turning her clear blue eyes toward Kira.

"Hey man," she mumbled out then nodded back down to rest her head upon the desk again.

Rina watched her sister greet their classmate before laughing lightly at her antics.

Her sister really WASN'T a morning person.

Suddenly, Rexel stands up and turns toward the exit.

"I'm gonna give you and your man some alone time!" Rexel says with a devious smile before disappearing down the hall.

Gado disappears behind a door next to his desk where several explosions are heard and different colored smoke can be seen through the tiny window.

Kira watches Rexel leave and winders what she means by "your man" but pits it out of his mind. Kira smiles at Rina and says "eh, in middle school we used sodium in a minute amount and I liked it". Kira scoots over a little closer and pull a few pieces of shattered glass and one cuts through his bandage and he begins to bleed again. Kira sighs and says "you might want to look away if you don't like blood as he unwraps his wound.

"Do you need help? Or a First Aid Kit?" She asks, while something in the back of her mind wonders why it was that Kira was so battered and bruised.

She knew he got into fights but she wondered what it was that was bothering him emotionally. He was so distant.

'What made him like this?' She thought, as she quickly took the bandages from Kira's hand and began to unwrap the wound herself.

Kira lets Rina unwrap his wound. It was an obvious slash but he says "those damn trees have so many dead branches. I fell off one and got all banged up". Kira looks towards the window and sees the smoke. "what is up with that teacher?" he wonders aloud.

Rina looks at the gaping wound and knows that it's not from a tree. But she honestly doesn't know Kira well enough to wonder why he would lie to her. So instead she stands and gets the first aid kit hanging from the wall, before heading back to begin cleaning the wound.

"I don't know for certain," She answers him finally, telling him that the alcohol would sting before applying it.

"But, I sort of like that he's a bit strange." She smiles as she wraps Kira's arm back up.

"Makes him different from others," She continues then smiles, "Kind of like you."

Kira feels the alcohol burn on his skin and winces slightly. Kira smiles at Rina and says " kind of like me? ". He felt bad for lying to her but he also felt she did not need to know about all the people who hate him. He had figured out it was due to him getting the leader of the schools biggest gang mad. Kira laughs a little.

Rina blushed hotly at his admission and had to suppress the girly giggle that bubbled in the pit of her stomach.

"Uh," She couldn't look him in the eyes as she responded, "I like you too, Kira."

She finally finished wrapping the wound but ended up fidgeting with Kira's arm still in her hand without noticing.

Funny how nervousness tends to blind you.

Just then Gado slammed open the door from his office, "I've done it!!! I must tell someone!!" He looked around the otherwise empty room and spotted the two sitting rather close to each other and smiled at them. He walked over with his hands clasped together and squatted down in front of them. "Allow me to set the mood." he said before opening his hands and revealing a small personal fireworks show. Little rockets exploded from his hands and exploded just above their heads and showered them with small, warm sparks.

Kira smiles at her but winces for a second and says "I am glad to hear that cause i thought i just made a fool of my self". Kira sees the teacher approach and watches the fire works. "you are crazy, you know that?" he tells the teacher. Kira looks back at Rina and asks "would you like to go on a proper date sometime?".

"Oh, how lovely!" Rina comments as she watches the lovely little light show taking place just over her head.

She's brought back to reality just as she hears his request.

Dark red stains her cheeks and she can't help the smile that spreads across her face and nods softly, "Yes, I would love to."
